My father-in-law is one of them. Granted, he doesn’t have piles of garbage in his house or any of the seven outbuildings, but he does own four full size refrigerators and two freezers that are full of food at all times. He and my mother-in-law have enough canned goods to last for three years based on the dates she canned them. We just cracked open some green beans and tomatoes from September 2011 and they were good - but we’re also growing a bunch of stuff and more beans, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers than anyone can use, again, this year.
He collects a bunch of crap, has several safes in the house with god-only-knows-what inside, more guns and ammo than the local police department, and several non-or-barely-running vehicles on the property. Three of them are tow trucks, plus a dump truck, a railyard forklift, a school bus, and two unfinished hot rod projects.
Then there’s the old Chevy. He has a ‘51 Chevy Coupe in the shed next to the barn and I see it every day when I go out to run the hose out to the garden.

But sitting on rusted Corvette Rally wheels and flat white-letter Hoosiers. It’s got enough dust on it that you can’t even see in the windows.
It’s been sitting since at least the 90s, because my wife said that it was there before they took the pasture fence down when she was in high school.
I want it. There’s some rot in the rockers and rear quarters, but it looks solid. The chrome is pitted all over. Unfortunately, if I were to ask him if we can pull it into the barn proper, or under a different shed where I could wrench on it, he’d come up with an excuse as to why nobody can do anything with it. It bothers me that he just collects stuff with no intent to using it. I also would love to get a hold of his 68 Ford tow truck because it’s just a really cool-looking vehicle. However, he never wants to do anything with these things. He just keeps collecting them.
